PLLs are the key elements in mixed-signal designs. We will see how to adopt a top-down design approach to design the loop filter of a PLL starting from the noise and spectral purity specifications. We will see how to progress from an ideal model towards the simulation of the PLL including analog and digital components and optimize the response of the loop filter.
